I like Part 2 better myself. I agree with a 7 for part 1, but I've got part 2 as an 8.

For the life of me I can't recall exactly what the criteria was for
voting on this one in the 1949 Singles Battle --whether we were voting
on Part 1,Part 2 or some combination of both?

Whichever which way it was "Battle Of The Blues" had a nice little run
in the contest as witness :-

ROUND ONE
Post by SavoyBG
2 Jo Stafford - If I Ever Love Again - Capitol 742
18 Joe Turner & Wynonie Harris - Battle Of The Blues - Aladdin 3036
Another win for both Joe & Wynonie here in tandem
WINNER : JOE/WYNONIE

ROUND TWO
Post by SavoyBG
15 Joe Turner & Wynonie Harris - Battle Of The Blues - Aladdin 3036
5 Ruth Brown - Rocking Blues - Atlantic 887
Ruth scored earlier but loses here to Joe & Wynonie's joint effort
recorded as long ago as 1947 and the subject of a post yesterday (see
my repy to Mark D. in the main 1949 Round Two thread)
WINNER : JOE/WYNONIE

ROUND THREE
Post by SavoyBG
4 Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup - Hoodoo Lady Blues - RCA 50-0032
15 Joe Turner & Wynonie Harris - Battle Of The Blues - Aladdin 3036
Joe & Wynonie add to their respective tallies with a joint effort here
WINNER : JOE/WYNONIE

ROUND FOUR
Post by SavoyBG
9 The Robins - If It's So Baby - Savoy 726
12 Joe Turner & Wynonie Harris - Battle Of The Blues - Aladdin 3036
What better way to start off the day than a win for the most dynamic
duo of that year. They don't quite have it all their own way tho The
Robins put up a respectable showing too
WINNER : JOE & WYNONIE

ROUND FIVE
Post by SavoyBG
4 Joe Turner & Wynonie Harris - Battle Of The Blues - Aladdin 3036
17 Roy Brown - Boogie At Midnight - DeLuxe 3300
Win #2 for Roy Brown here today sees the last of Joe Turner who will
grace this particular contest no more
WINNER : BROWN

THE 1949 BATTLE OF THE SINGLES!!!
***** Joe Turner & Wynonie Harris - Battle Of The Blues - Aladdin 3036
Ruth Brown - Rocking Blues - Atlantic 887
Is there a story behind the Turner/Harris meeting? It's the only record
I know where they appeared together.
Aladdin paired Wynonie with the newly signed Joe Turner in Harris'
third and last session for the label (circa July 1947) at the end of
his unhappy period with them.

In fact no less than FOUR numbers were cut that day---the two part
"Battle Of The Blues" plus "Going Home" and "Blues" both of which
waited decades to first see release on a French Pathe-Marconi
compilation.

Aladdin seem to have treated Wynonie somewhat less than well as
demonstrated by the fact that the "Battle Of The Blues" single did not
see release for TWO years until Harris was at the top of his
popularity churning out the R&B hits with King

2020 ADDITION :-

Here's the two tracks that went unreleased for decades :-

Going Home (1947)

Blues (1947)

Yes but that set is from 1998 I believe.

My point was that both tracks appeared for the FIRST time on Pathe
Marconi (France) LP1561431.

That was in 1985

Oh, I didn't mean that was the first release--I was just saying they're
available on that CD.
