...but damn if I ever heard of it before. It's worth a listen, just to
marvel at the lyrics. She's lucky she didn't get what she asked for!

OTOH I have a lot of time for Eddie Fisher if not his records

After all,any guy that um...gets to entertain Debbie Reynolds,Elizabeth
Taylor and Connie Stevens regularly (tho sadly not all at the same time)
deserves some kind of recognition,right?

Roger, you are sounding like a misogynist, who objectifies women and
reduces them to mere conquests, which is a form of disrespect and
prejudice against women.

Not true, in my mind. Please tell me more, Dean.
Bruce, Mark and Diane are also invited to give one or more examples of
nasty comments about Jews.

Let's be blunt, DianeE, you are a cheap and nasty liar.

But because of your struggle street background you just don't
care about being called a liar.

Nonsense!

I hold women in high regard and respect them very much

W.C. Fields?
It seems to be a humorous twist on a similar phrase about children.
The children phrase is associated with W.C. Fields but strictly
speaking it's not known who said it first.

----------
I was a little girl when I had an intense negative reaction to "I'm
Walking Behind You" and "Dungaree Doll." I really hated those 2
records. I disliked "Oh My Papa" but not as much as the other two. The
only song by him that I remember liking was "Cindy Oh Cindy," which was
a few years later.
Eddie Fisher was married 5 times and had 4 children, all of whom he
pretty much neglected due to his addictions to drugs and gambling. He
was not a nice man. That's what I meant by she's lucky she didn't get him.

"Cindy Oh Cindy" was like October of 1956 and "Dungaree Doll" was late
1955, big in early 1956. And this is the better version of "Cindy."

I guess it is better. Poster says it was also in the top 10 but I don't
have any memory of hearing it on Mom's radio.

I guess she was not listening to WMGM. It was in their top 10 for all 5
weeks in December 1956. I think it stayed at #7 every week in December.

Good grief, no. She didn't want to hear any rock & roll (which WMGM
played along with pop). She listened to the "Make-Believe Ballroom."

I met Vince when i lived in Woodstock. He was pals with a couole of
other guys i knew there at the time-- Freddy Neil and Bill Lubinsky.
Bill was a guy that got famous for being the only source of he
original Woodstock posters he picked up that were piled up at a stand
at the Festiival when it closed.

I can't agree about the tepid Vince Martin/Tarriers original (tho not
quite*) version of "Cindy Oh Cindy" which I find quite flat and of no
interest.

Fisher's version is a little better and at least listenable. There is no
"great" version of the song but I find The Beach Boys treatment the one
I like best.

*Of course the song itself owes much to the folk song "Pay Me My Money
Down" which I don't much care for in the Weavers version but which has
more appeal in the much later Springsteen version

From the original HOLLYWOOD SQUARES:

PETER MARSHALL: Eddie Fisher recently said, “I am so sorry. I’m sorry
for them both.” Who was he talking about?
PAUL LYNDE: His fans.
