This batch ain't as good as the first one!!

1- "Jo Jo"- Representative 50's disc.

2- "I Never Would Have Made It"- Roy Milton's pomade- gargling proper phrasing was always tiresome to me. This tune sounds as though it could have been redone by the equally tiresome Eric Clapton.

3- "Hangover Blues"- This group should have named itself, Henrietta Williams.
Sounds like it was recorded in a public restroom which would have been tithlarly appropriate. The " Stall of Sound", baby!!

4- "Johnnie Mae" Mushmouth mess!!

Excellent flipside of the just as excellent "Calling All Cows" on
Excello that DID make the 1955 Singles Battle.

Only Earl "Early" Dranes survives in this later Lazy Bill Lucas-led
conglomeration of the group from the outfit that recorded years
earlier for Aristocrat (and then Chess).

Original "Blues Rocker" Willie Mabon was,of course, long gone to a
successful solo career.

Very good flip of their most memorable 50's release "Oh What A Nite".

Sadly none of their 50's records made it to this side of the pond
where they never had a release until they signed with Chess in the
60's

I Never Would Have Made It - Roy Milton - 6
After a long and successful stint on Specialty Milton left in 1955 to
join Dootsie Williams for whom he recorded this one (I personally
prefer the "I Want To Go Home" flip) .

Note for Milton fans looking for future entries in these tournaments
---NONE of his post-Specialty releases made any of the Battles

Hangover Blues - Maddox Brothers & Rose (1953) - 5
If this is what a hangover is like I'm sure glad I don't drink!!

It's marginally better than "The Death Of Rock 'N Roll" :)

Hey, I got through 20 whole seconds of this one. The Gene O Quin record
from last month, I listened to the whole thing.

I think it's pretty good, but it's not a style that very popular with these voters.

FINAL RANKINGS:

2. I Never Would Have Made It - Roy Milton - 33
3. Johnny Mae - Blues Rockers - 29

4. Hangover Blues - Maddox Brothers & Rose - 15

The top 3 advance and "Hangover Blues" is out. Good thing Bob's Hillbilly records are around to ensure that everybody else's records adavance :-)

The Accents record is still on the hook to be dropped.

Nor me from posting Latin and Caribbean records. I have two lined up for the June cusp tourney. Don't give up, Bob. One of your nominations will reach one of the non believers.

Is there anything that *isn't*?
(Rhetorical question--if there is, I'd rather not know about it.)
