Here's the results of voting in Round One - Part One of the Singles
Battle Of Battles.
Loved these results, especially the two severely overrated Patsy Cline
ballads going out.

Surprising early losses for Orbison, esepcially "Running Sacred"
losing to the Ventures.
Post by Roger Ford
9 Muddy Waters - I Can't Be Satisfied - Aristocrat 1305 - 1948
14 Fats Domino - Blue Monday - Imperial 5417 - 1956
Hard to believe a 1948 Muddy record did this well against a great
Fats.

2 Mary Wells - The One Who Really Loves You - Motown 1024 - 1962
20 James Brown - Please,Please,Please - Federal 12258 - 1956
Thought this would be much closer with this crowd.

9 Johnnie Ray - Cry - Okeh 6840 - 1951

10 The Skyliners - Since I Don't Have You - Calico 103 - 1958
13 Hank Williams - Honky Tonkin' - M-G-M 10171 - 1948
This might be my favorite unexpected result of the round. Sappy huge
white doo wop loses to 1948 HW record when Hank is not doing very well
otherwise.

13 Arthur Alexander - You Better Move On - Dot 16309 - 1961
9 The Flamingos - Golden Teardrops - Chance 1145 - 1953

14 The Five Royales - Baby Don't Do It - Apollo 443 - 1952
6 Little Eva - The Loco-Motion - Dimension 1000 - 1962

13 The Clovers - Blue Velvet - Atlantic 1052 - 1955

Already we can see 1956 begin to dominate, something that I see no
reason will probably not repeat itself in Round One - Part Two

Wonder how many rounds we can go before some "same year vs same year"
bouts become inevitable?

That likely will never come about. In order for it to happen you will
need to have more than half of the remaining records be from the same
year.

1956 is really strong, but I don't see it having 5 of the final 8 or 9
of the final 16.

Nice job,Rick thanks!
Already we can see 1956 begin to dominate, something that I see no
reason will probably not repeat itself in Round One - Part Two
Wonder how many rounds we can go before some "same year vs same year"
bouts become inevitable? =A0
That likely will never come about. In order for it to happen you will
need to have more than half of the remaining records be from the same
year.
1956 is really strong, but I don't see it having 5 of the final 8 or 9
of the final 16.
Hmmmmm...I hope you're right. Let's wait and see

Here's the results of voting in Round One - Part One of the Singles
Battle Of Battles. 24 people voted. There were FIVE draws :-
Here is another look at the results viewed in terms of the years of the individual songs and their
ranks from their Yearly contests. For each song I list the year, its rank, the number of votes in
this round, and finally the song. In each pair of songs, the winner is listed first. For example:

48 1 18 Wynonie Harris - Good Rockin' Tonight - King 4210 - 1948
60 17 5 Jerry Butler - He Will Break Your Heart - Vee Jay 354 - 1960

"Good Rockin' Tonight" was from 1948 and ranked #1 in the 1948 contest. In this round, it beat
"He Will Break Your Heart" 18-5. "He Will Break Your Heart" was #17 in the 1960 contest.

I hope this won't be too overwhelming.

Here's the results of voting in Round One - Part One of the Singles
Battle Of Battles. 24 people voted. There were FIVE draws :-
Here is another look at the results viewed in terms of the years of the individual songs and their
ranks from their Yearly contests.  For each song I list the year, its rank, the number of votes in
48      1       18      Wynonie Harris - Good Rockin' Tonight - King 4210 - 1948
60      17      5       Jerry Butler - He Will Break Your Heart - Vee Jay 354 - 1960
"Good Rockin' Tonight" was from 1948 and ranked #1 in the 1948 contest.  In this round, it beat
"He Will Break Your Heart" 18-5.  "He Will Break Your Heart" was #17 in the 1960 contest.
I hope this won't be too overwhelming.
1958 Winners
56      23      18      Bill Doggett - Honky Tonk - King 4950
57      24      6       The Monotones - Book Of Love - Mascot 124
This should have been a 1957 loser rather than a 1958 winner.

Great stats, Rick.

Amazing how man 1956 records won in landslides while even the winners
in years like 1961 and 1962 were all winning in pretty close contests.

After this current round maybe you can also give us some numbers on
some of the bigger artists.

I'm glad someone was reading this closely enough to notice that. "1958 Winners" should have come
after those 2 songs, not before. I hope I can automate much more of the generation of the entire
listing since it ended up needing a lot more manual processing, and I'm not sure I'll be able to
spend that much time on a continuing basis.

Thanks.

I'm planning to do that. I thought I had most everything set up to do that fairly easily, but it
turned out that there were a number of differences between how Roger listed some of the songs and
the way I had them listed, and I have had to resolve all of them. Most of them are quite minor,
but any difference breaks my calculations.

Also, I'm not quite sure what to do about the songs from the Preliminary Round. I think I'm
probably going to have to disregard those results in terms of the artist stats since including that
round would give extra wins and votes to artists that had songs in that round. I don't have to do
that for the year stats since all years had the same number of songs in that round. For the artist
stats I guess I could use the Prelim results only as tie-breakers.

1958 Winners
56      23      18      Bill Doggett - Honky Tonk - King 4950
57      24      6       The Monotones - Book Of Love - Mascot 124
This should have been a 1957 loser rather than a 1958 winner.

Great stats, Rick.
Thanks.

Amazing how man 1956 records won in landslides while even the winners
in years like 1961 and 1962 were all winning in pretty close contests.
After this current round maybe you can also give us some numbers on
some of the bigger artists.
Next can be each year's W-L record against each other year.
