Yes, I've heard the originals. And yes, like many pop singers, he put some more rhythm and "sound" ooomph into his singing becaue of r'n'r. Even Nat Kng Cole did that.
I asked because I considered removing "It's All in the Game" from my list of the Top 500 Rock & Roll Hits of the Oldies Era. Though I think it's a beautiful record, it stuck out like the proverbial sore thumb when compared to most of the other entries.
