A friend of mine asked me if I knew where he could get the real lyrics to
"Western Movies".

I've gone to a few sites and they all seem to be wrong.

Lot's of the second half are wrong.

Here's what I've found on the net and they all seem to be from the same wrong
source:

o save my soul I can't get a date,
Baby's got it tuned on channel eight.
Now Wyatt Earp and the Big Cheyenne
They're comin' thru the T.V. shootin up the land.
Ah...um...my baby loves the Western movies.
My baby loves the Western movies,
Bam, bam, shoot 'em up Pow.
Ah..um..My babe loves the Western Movies.
I call my baby on the telephone
To tell her half my head was gone
I just got hit by a great big brick
She says thanks for reminding me about that Maverick
Ah..um...my baby loves the Western movies.

My baby loves the Western movies,
Bam, bam, shoot em up pow.
Ah...um...
My baby loves the Western movies.
Well there's Jeremy Roller and Old Cochise
Jim Hardy, Jim Bowie and Sugarfoot.
They all have gun will travel
Give me back my boots and saddle uh huh.
Here's the story of the certain Wagon Train Mccord
A broken arrow has broken my heart.
A Jefferson Thomas with Bat Masterson
Unties my baby and the fight was won.
Ah..um...my baby loves the Western movies.
My baby loves the western movies.
Bam bam shoot em up pow.
Ah um, my baby loves the western movies.

So, anybody got the "real lyrics".

This seems to be just like that Moody River lyric that nobody could figure out.

You know that "Vainest Knife" lyric.

Hi Ray,
Well here's my version!! There doesn't seem to be a Jefferson Thomas or
Bat
Masterson or Jeremy Roller, just Jefferson Drum? (it's pretty clear)
who is
that? and I don't hear Cochise.
The line doesn't necessarily have to name another western, but maybe it
does!
Chorus, changes each verse.
(The Olympics songs...very tough!)
Well, it's not perfect but it's better than the other version.
LOL. hope it helps somewhat.

I once had the UK sheet music to this song but sadly it went walkabout
decades ago. Your interpretation here is pretty much as I hear it but
one thing I DO recall from the sheet music is this line.

Here's the story of the certain Wagon Train McCord's (doo wah)
It's just McCord
I just played the record and yes,I know it does'nt sound like he's
saying it (and YES it DOES sound like the word you have!) but where
you have that "McCord" the sheet music had "McCullough" (which makes
sense lyrically at least since that was the Robert Horton character in
"Wagon Train").

Even worse is that IIRC that other contentious word WAS'NT "certain"
either----but I can't remember what the sheet music had :-(

"Vied"? No way would that word be used in a Rock & Roll record, at least
this one. I think it's "hogtied." That's how the fight was won and she
finally stopped watching the TV westerns.

I agree with Roger - 'hog-tied' also makes sense in the context of
'Westerns'.

But, to make up for these extra words, both sites omit the "My" in front of
"baby's" in the first verse.

It's hard to hear the "muh" sound for "My," but it's there.

Throw out both those sites. Besides two extra words and one omitted one
already reported in just the first verse, they also added "They're" to

I won't bother going further; they're just junk.

The second one is the one I posted as being wrong. The first link you have
seems to almost have it right.

Your almost good one has "Here's the story of the century Wagon Train and cart".

It should be "Here's the story of the century, Wagon Trains and cards". Cards
would probably be referring to Maverick.

It sounds like you're sitting on the sheet music with the official lyrics.
Otherwise, how could you be so sure?

If you have the official lyrics, please post them so we can compare them to
what we hear. As you know, singers don't always follow the script.

Here's the story of the certain Wagon Train McCord's (doo wah)
I don't know where the McCord part came from. I just checked and there never
was a character called McCord on Wagon Train. I think there was a Kent McCord
that was the Co-star of Adam 12.

It's interesting how they adjusted the lyrics to fit the rhyme. Vint Bonner
(John Payne) was the character in "Restless Gun", but then that wouldn't rhyme
too well.

I've gone to a few sites and they all seem to be wrong.
Lot's of the second half are wrong.
Here's what I've found on the net and they all seem to be from the
o save my soul I can't get a date,
Any lyrics that don't start with the word "To" are wrong. It's "To save my
soul I can't get a date."

A friend of mine asked me if I knew where he could get the real
lyrics to "Western Movies".

My fault. I didn't notice that the T was missing when I copied and pasted this.
The T is definitely there. and so it is "To" to start the song..

You know that this just shows how bad the "net" can be with propagating wrong
info. It looks like one person heard the song and guessed at a lot of the
lyrics and posted them to his/her site and then other people just took those
misheard lyrics and put them on their sites as their own.

They all have gun will travel
I found this effort from alt.music.lyrics which looks like a
Save my soul I can't get a date
Already commented on this. Don't know how they could miss the word "To."

They all have gun, and will travel
It's definitely "All have gun- no "They"-- and I think the lyric I always
remembered is correct, though I can't swear to it:

"All have gun. None will travel." This would fit in with him wishing the
westerns would leave the TV (travel).

It's all have gun and will travel. It's a reference to the tv show
Have Gun, Will Travel that starred Richard Boone (Paladin)

I knew that, but thought it was cleverly changed. On relistening, though, I
think it is "and."

I've posted it under "Olympics" if anyone else is interested in trying to
decipher it.
