while listening to gracie's "it's fabulous" earlier today, having not
heard it in literally 50 years, i realized it sounded very, very much
like "don't be cruel"....and "i beg of you" or "paralyzed" for that
matter.

the back up singers even sound like the jordanaires (maybe it was them,
for all i know).

does anyone know the "story" behind this song, which as i remember was
his follow-up to "butterfly"?

Frank the song is titled simply "Fabulous"

thanks for the correction roger, but i'd be interested in your thoughts
as to the "point" i was trying to make about it sounding much like
"don't be cruel" as well as "paralyzed" and "i beg of you."

I rarely see this kind of similarity between songs. To be honest the
song sounds nothing like any of them to me but I can see why,at the
time many people here thought "Fabulous" was the new Elvis record when
they first heard it on radio

Okay I'll go for this.

My, then pals, Charlie Bell & Tony Barlow told me about this singer
who sounded like Elvis.

They dragged me up to Birkheads department store and into the record
department where we played the 45 in a listening booth.

Yep, I agreed, also loved the b-side, in fact I bought the 45, never
regretted it.

actually i wasn't thinking that he sounded so much like elvis, but that
the song "fabulous" sounded much like an elvis record, what with the
arrangement and the back-up vocals.

I was a fan of Charlie Gracie and saw him on his first UK tour. Still
got several of his 45s.

For me, the main similarity at that time was that Charlie and Scotty
Moore's guitar style was similar although Charlie used a lot less echo.

Charlie's version of Butterfly was released after the Andy Williams
version in the UK so didn't get much (if any) air time.

Haven't heard it since the summer '57 but do recall it and see what
you mean about the similarity, especially regarding "I Beg Of You."
