Obviously I like "Ebony Eyes" which I've done ever since I bought the
record when it was current. The lyrics and general tone of the record
don't bother me since the harmonies are some of their best ever

MY FAVE 20 DUET RECORDS
TODAY........FROM 1961
without doing time consuming research I can't add anything
to Roger's 1961 list of duets

this was released in 1961 but it originally came out in 1958
as by The Pledges on [Rev 3517;;Phoenix AZ]:

Skip and Flip - Betty Jean [Time 1031;b-side] - 1961

Clyde "Skip" Battin with Gary "Flip" Paxton (as The Pledges)

So according to you it's only a duet if 2 people are both singing. So
"Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers is not a duet.

Here is the dictionary definition.

a performance by two people, especially singers, instrumentalists, or
dancers.

So is "Exodus" by Ferrante & Teicher" a duet?

How about "Sleep Walk" by Santo & Johnny.

I guess according to you both people have to be doing the same thing for
it to be a duet. If one is playing and one is singing, ala Les Paul &
Mary Ford, then it's not a duet?

In the Les Paul & Mary Ford case both are playing but only one is
singling. So that's not a duet?

Yes,I've boned up on the duets definition too and both of these are
duets if its accepted that instrumentals count too. At the time of the
Dazzling Duets contest neither instrumental "counted" so neither was
included (and of course NOBODY here raised a single objection to that
fact)---but times change and so do minds so I'm more minded now to
include examples like these as duets so you can look forward to "Sleep
Walk" almost certainly featuring in the 1959 edition of the present
series of posts

Under the definition of "duet" as currently presented I imagine Les &
Mary qualify as a "duet" which will certainly make the earlier 1950's
years editions of this series much easier to compile

Of course taking this "new" definition to its logical conclusion now
means that EVERY Ike & Tina record with a vocal is a duet since Ike is
playing on all whilst Tina does her thing

As I just mentioned to Diane "It's Gonna Work Out Fine" is certainly a
duet as both Ike & Tina contribute vocally so I have messed up bad in
missing that one---"one" being the operative word for it since it would
be #1 on my list (its a 9 on my 1961 list)

Did not know the Gene & Ruth. Not bad at all, need to hear it a few more
times

It's some other guy. So is true is it still a duet for you?

Notes I made in an mp3 filename says Mickey Baker was the guy (and Sylvia
Vanderpool played rhythm guitar, for what it's worth).

I've got about 20 mp3s of this song (from 20 different compilations of
course) and what's crazy is that I never got around to suffixing any of
them with a (G), which is why I couldn't readily list it as a fave 1961
duet.

I stand to be corrected, but if Roger is to be consistent with his Vocal
Group definition I don't think he'll accept this recording as a duet :-)

I already knew it's not Ike's vocal on there but it IS a single male
vocal and matched to Tina's vocals = a bona fide duet,no?
