Fine revival of the much recorded standard on Atco from the
brother/sister pair. #1 in the USA #20 in UK on London
4. SURF CITY – JAN & DEAN
“Two girls for ev’ry boy”….J&D’s biggest ever hit (and their best IMO).
#1 in USA #24 in UK (both on Liberty)
5. I CAN’T STAND IT – THE SOUL SISTERS
Two (unrelated) gals from Harlem NYC formed the Soul Sisters here with
their biggest record #8 r&b in USA on Sue label
6. SWINGING ON A STAR – BIG DEE IRWIN (LITTLE EVA)
Aided by Little Eva, Big Dee successfully revives the old Crosby hit on
Dimension (US) Colpix (UK) -#38 BB pop//#7 UK
7. DRAG CITY – JAN & DEAN
Their second biggest hit of ’63 for Liberty after “Surf City”- #10 BB
Hot 100 saw them swap the water for the wacetwack
8. I’M LEAVING IT UP TO YOU – DALE & GRACE
#1 BB pop chart hit in 1963 for this revival of the old Don & Dewey
number. On Montel-Michelle label (US) London (UK)
9. I’LL KEEP RUNNING BACK – BOB & EARL
Fine flip side of their “Harlem Shuffle” (see above) on Marc (Sue in
UK). Later different version appeared on Mirwood
10. HONOLULU LULU – JAN & DEAN
The immediate followup to their #1 “Surf City” smash (see above) on
Liberty reached #11 BBHot 100.
11. THAT’S WHERE IT’S AT – THE SIMS TWINS
Their last record on Sam Cooke’s SAR label. It will be over a year till
they emerge again---and then on the Omen label
12. SHAKE A HAND – JACKIE WILSON & LINDA HOPKINS
Fine revival of Faye Adams’ #1 original in 1953 that charted for Jackie
& Linda at #42BBpop and #21BBr&b

Excellent r&b duet from Sidney & Pauline Banks originally issued on Cuca

Throwback sounding duet by the famous brothers on Reprise (Dorsey had
just signed for them). Jimmy Bowen produced

Following exactly the “Deep Purple” formula the bro/sis duo revive the
old 1920 Paul Whiteman number. A #11 BB pop hit

The most successful of the records that the songwriters Jeff Barry &
Ellie Greenwich recorded as “The Raindrops” #17 BBpop

Two of my favorite artists combine here on a memorable duet on Lenox

Released in March 1963 on Roulette this is my favorite of their records
from that year,
19. I REALLY LOVE YOU – THE KNIGHT BROTHERS
From December 1963 their second release for Checker. They will score a
hit in 1965 with “Temptation ‘Bout To Get Me”
20. I WANT TO STAY HERE – STEVE & EYDIE
Okay it’s pop…so sue me! It’s a real catchy Goffin-King song I always
liked. #27 BB pop but a big #3 hit here in UK
