This post is too big, I need to make 2 posts.
Let's see what was going on in music during this week in 1963. This week is only for hard core fans as I have a shit load of surveys from this time. It's the longest one of these yet, but well worth it as there are many good odd records listed. I found 3 or 4 good records that I did not know already. If you have the time, you should go through this carefully.
We'll start with WABC in New York City.
WABC Silver Dollar Sound Survey for Week of 12 February 1963

His best record IMO, it's in my top 10 for 1962. It was first released then on an album.

Not Goffin and King's best song. It was a huge hit, but I never heard it played as an oldie in NYC.
*40. Every Day I Have to Cry - Steve Alaimo (Checker) --
Always liked this. The guy had talent and made some good soulful records, but this is his only memorable hit.

Station from Trenton, WAAT with a top 90. Here's a scan of the chart.
Loading Image...
#11 - Maybe You'll Be There / Over The Weekend - Billy and the Essentials
Use both sides, Frank? The A side bubbled under on BB.
#13 - I'm Sorry Pillow - Lee Andrews
Use it, Bill?
#27 - Come On And Love Me - Freddy Cannon
Flip side of a record (Four Letter Man) that bubbled under on BB.
Use either side, Frank?
#43 - Laugh or Cry - Toni Fisher
Never charted on BB.
#45 - Half Time - Routers
"Let's Go" part 2, it bubbled under on BB.
#47 - Anything You Can Do - Majors
Bubbled under on BB at #117. Use it, Frank? It's like "Swinging On A Star" by Big Dee Irwin.
#49 - Drifting Apart - Mack Starr and the Mellows
Never heard of this before, not bad. Chuck Jackson type thing.
#54 - I Wanna Know Right Now - Carol Slade
I know Carol Slade. She lived in the same retirement complex with my mother in Manchester, NJ. She's from Newark, went to Arts High School there, and was in the Gospelaires, the group that Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick started with. She left the group to make a few solo records that did fairly well but never broke nationally. She was on Bandstand one week and is looking for a copy of that video. She had no idea that people cared about her records anymore. I made her a CD of them and showed her the youtube stuff. She has been out of the music business for like 50 years now, but she still is in touch with Dionne. She and the other girls sang on "Don't Make Me Over."
#56 - Diary of our Love - Premiers
Good doo wop on Herald. Use it, Frank?
#57 - Leavin' On Your Mind - Patsy Cline
This got to #83 on BB pop.
#58 - Tell Him I'm Not Home - Chuck Jackson
Got to #42 on BB pop. The female voice is Doris Troy. Use it, Bill?
#59 - The Peanut Butter Song - Gabriel and the Angels
Never heard this before. Did not make BB.
#60 - Hey Little Angel - Mascots
Third rate Four Seasons sound, dire. On the Blast label.
#65 - Preacher Man - Charlie Russo
Picked up by Diamond and it got to #92 on BB. Use it, Frank?
#66 - Again - Four Epics
White doo wop on Laurie. It's pretty awful, but I'll bet Franke C used it. These guys sing as flat as a pancake.
#68 - Mish-Mash - Carrie Grant
This is an R&B screamer that sells well with the Europeon Popcorn crowd. It's similar to "Mashed Poatatos" by Nat Kendrick. A clean copy sells for about $25.
#70 - Have I Told You Lately - Guy Mitchell
Not on YT. It did not make BB.
#74 - Don't Be Cruel - Barbara Lynn
This got to #93 on BB pop. It does not work as a low tempo soul record IMO. Use it, Frank?
#75 - Memories, Memories - Joannie Sommers
Did not make BB. It's shit, with a banjo.
#76 - Pretty Boy Lonely - Patti Page
Patti trying to sound contemporatry for this time. It did chart on BB or one week at #98. Hope you used it, Frank!
#78 - Memory Lane - Tams
They were better known as the Hippies, changing their name because of the "What Kind of Fool" Tams. The record is foul though.
#81 - What Are Boys Made Of - Percells
They were from Long Island, this hit #53 on BB. Use it, Bill?
#83 - Millionaire - Billy Duke
Philly kid, he had a chart hit early in 1962, but this did nothing. Song was written by Van McCoy and Luther Dixon.
#84 - Archibold The Second (Duke of Nothing) - Dipsy & the Doodles
This is a weird one by a black group on May Records. There was also a version by the Roulettes, which is better IMO.
#85 - Mr. Blues / Little Things - Damita Jo
Neither side charted on BB. Only the A side is on YT, not bad at all.
#87 - Laugh and the World Laughs - Jack Scott
Never charted at all. I know it from the "Burning Bridges" album.
