This is the right version, too, not the re-recording on the "Billboard
Greatest Christmas Hits" CD on Rhino.

Too bad Don Henley has usurped this gem in the public's mind.
I agree that this should be definitive.
Charles Brown wrote it.....he should own it, baby!

Absolutely. It's one of my favorites. I was lucky enought that that I
got to work with Charles on a couple of shows back in the day.

LOL, you think the Eagles' version is inferior, you should hear Jon Bon
Jovi's.

Aaron Neville and Johnny Adams both recorded decent versions, and there
are probably many others.

But, as Dobie Gray put it, "Other guys imitate us/But the original's
still the greatest."

By any chance are you into Soul music, Dean :-)

some of Geoff's fave Christmas recordings:

The Youngsters - Christmas In Jail [Empire 109;;Hollywood] - Oct 1956

Chuck Blevins - Sleighbell Rock [Foxie 7006] - Dec 1961

The Moods - Rockin' Santa Claus [Sarg 184;;Luling TX] - Sep 1960

Charles Brown - Merry Christmas Baby [Hollywood 1021] - Nov 1954

I prefer this version over the original overly 'tinkling' 1947 version

Dodie Stevens - Merry Christmas Baby [Dot 16166] - Nov 1960

Oscar McLollie And His Honey Jumpers - Dig That Crazy Santa Claus
[Modern 943] - Sep 1954

Cordell Jackson - Rock And Roll Christmas [Moon G8OW-6407;;Memphis] -
1956

The Uniques - Merry Christmas Darling (And A Happy New Year (Too))
[Demand 2936;;MA] - 1963

plus some faves I share with a Diane Elizabeth (raised in Brooklyn NY)

The Penguins - Jingle Jangle [Mercury 70762] - Dec 1955

The Enchanters - Mambo Santa Mambo [Coral 9-61916] - Nov 1957

The Miracles - Christmas Everyday [Tamla EX-009] - Nov 1963

The Staple Singers - Go Tell It On The Mountain [LP] - 1962
