These two songs sound identical to me. Did the Oak Ridge Boys get
permission, or had enough time passed that the copyright was not being
infringed, or am I just crazy. Please don't answer that that
question.

Elvira was written by and originally recorded by Dallas Frazier 1966.
Elvira has never reminded me, either lyrically or melodically, of
Searchin'.
---------------
I stand somewhere between the two of you. "Elvira" *did* remind me of
"Searchin' " when I first heard it, but it's *very* far from identical.
Elvira borrows from a lot of sources. Although there's no doubt there's lot
of r&b at work (papa-oom-mow-mow, a minor reference to searchin', etc),
I think it owes more to Ray Stevens than Lieber & Stoller. BTW, Frazier
was apparently one of the writers of Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow.

It's just the title, followed by three beats where the lead is quiet, then
the title repeated again followed by three beats, then a line of harmony.
That's all the similarity there is between the two songs, but it was enough
to register with me *as* a similarity.

Diane, I realize now I should have said similar. As far as which song
is better, I prefer Searchin'

Evlira has nice boobs! (oops talking about the song)-Dallas FGrazier
to my knowledge did NOI write Papa-oo-Mow-Mow..the Rivingtons did and
they sued for it (I rember 1981-82 L.A.times article about that)
