Ten fave album tracks chosen from my yearly Favorites lists
The Cadillacs|Zoom-Boom-Zing|Jubilee JLP1089|1959

Yes, very good one.
Bo Diddley|Little Girl|Checker LP1436|1959

Excellent track.
Fats Domino|Ain’t It Good|Imperial LP9065|1959

Good one record in 1953, but there is one Fats LP track from 1959 that I
like better.
Esquerita|I'm Battie Over Hattie|Capitol T1186|1959

My favorite by him.
Ricky Nelson|You'll Never Know What You're Missin'|Imperial LP9082|1959

Never heard this before, it's just 1 5 for me.
Lloyd Price|Carry Me Home|Specialty SP2105|1959

Ritchie Valens|Ooh My Head|Del-Fi LP1201|1959 **

Did not realize that it was not on a single here.

Let's see what I can come up with.

Here is what I came up with.

Would You - Fats Domino
Very good version (a 7) of a song done first by Dave Bartholomew (an 8).

Beyond The Sea - Bobby Darin
Not on a single until 1960.

Let The Good Times Roll - Ray Charles
Not on a single until,1960, and the full version was never on a single.

What'd I Say - Ray Charles
Single version was a short edit of the full masterpiece.

Believe What You Say - Ricky Nelson (Jordanaires)
Single from 1958 does not have the Jordanaires.

Don't Let It Go - Bo Diddley
Very good track from "Go Bo Diddley."

You Don't Love Me - Bo Diddley
same comment as above.

Traveling Stranger - Little Anthony & The Imperials
Not on a single until 1961.

The Story of Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
Bo had WAY more good album tracks than Chuck, who mainly had weak
throwaways as his album tracks.

Nasty Boogie - Champion Jack Dupree
Jack had a very good album in 1959. "Blues From The Gutter" on Atlantic.

Dancing Girl - Bo Diddley
Another good one for Ellis.

A Long Vacation - Ricky Nelson
Not on a single until 1963.

Drink of Wine, Mop. Mop - Sticks McGhee
From a various artists Folkways album called "On The Road."

Stack-O-Lee - Champion Jack Dupree

Dancing Girl - Bo Diddley
Another good one for Ellis.
I have the "Have Guitar Will Travel" LP in 1960 (so does Discogs)
Here is the Cash Box review on December 19, 1959.

I fixed the year on Discogs.

I have the Dupree LP listed as 1958 (Discogs agrees)
It's not mentioned at all in 1958 Cash Box, but in August of 1959 there
is an ad for a single that
says that it's from the album. I'm staying with 1959.

I fixed the year on the album in Discogs. Unlikely that the ad would
mention that the single is from the album in August if the album had
been out since 1958, plus no mention of the album anywhere in 1958.

Looks like we both have year changes to make. Me on songs from "In The
Spotlight" and you on songs from "Have Guitar Will Travel" and "Blues
From The Gutter."

I found stronger proof on the Dupree in Billboard. A list of new LP
releases from March 2, 1959 includes that album.

The Story of Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
Bo had WAY more good album tracks than Chuck, who mainly had weak
throwaways as his album tracks.
I show both "My Story" (the 45) and "Story Of Bo Diddley" on "In The
Spotlight" LP as 1960. 45cat and discogs show 1960 too
Okay, "My Story" is the same song as "The Story Of Bo Diddley." It was
"My Story" as a single in January 1960 on the flip side of "Road
Runner." Then in May of 1960 it came out as "The Story of Bo Diddley" on
the "In The Spotlight" album. So it's NOT an album track at all as it
was out on a single 3 months before the album.

Okay, so I moved both "Road Runner" and "My Story" to 1960 as the single
was reviewed in the first week of February in Cash Box. I had the single
as 1959 based on both songs being shown as 1959 releases on the Chess Bo
Diddley Box, but with a February 1960 review I think it's more likely
that it was not out yet in late 1959.

So Roger, you need to move all of the "Have Guitar Will Travel" songs
from 1960 to 1959, and also all of the "Blues From The Gutter" songs
from 1958 to 1959. Have fun!

Someone asked me which straight out pop number came closest to being
included here (previous years all had a Sinatra entry)

1959 is no exception and the answer once again is Frank Sinatra---this
time with "Something's Gotta Give" from his 1959 Capitol LP "Come Dance
With Me"

Geoff prefers many of the tracks, including #5 "Night Train", from
Kay Starr's 1959 adult rockin' Capitol LP "Movin'!"
